Postcard from K
There are no indigenous people left here. They were uprooted and replaced with new ones. “First People’s Land” — as we jokingly started to call the “City K”— adjusted to the newcomers, changing its nationality, lifestyle, beliefs, customs and traditions. New residents built their life there “from scratch”.
It is only centuries old oak trees along the old German roads that witnessed and still remember the whole story “before” and“after”.We are driving along endless winding roads, and it seems that the huge crowns of silent giants sigh and whisper the words “Fräulein, Fräulein ...” in a language they have almost forgotten.
